Our Lady Flight Into Egypt ~ Mary is honoured as the Chief Patron of our Diocese of Port Elizabeth. In accordance with the official liturgical Pastoral Guide it is therefore elevated to a solemnity (big feast) for the local church and celebrated on the Sunday that occurs on 4th February or between the 4th and 10th February each year.

Welcome to our Visitors!

We hope that you will easily find the information you seek – and also some of the interesting things that, we think, make our diocese somewhat special:

As you browse, among other things look into some examples of the sponsorships of the Collart Foundation in Holland which has imaginatively enhanced many of our churches, both inside and outside (link to our parishes…) We also have two Pastoral and Retreat Centres: St. Luke’s in Port Elizabeth and St. Pius in East London (link to our centres...), together with a fully operational Youth Centre at Lilyfontein, on the outskirts of East London. They offer many opportunities to all. The Bridging Year Collegium, run by the St. Philip Neri Oratory for students for the Seminary, continues to offer a good base for priestly formation (link to St. Philip Neri Oratory...). Our archives could well have the Baptism records of your famous ancestors! (link to our archives...)

God bless,

+Michael Coleman
Bishop of Port Elizabeth.
